Montana’s minimum coverage requirements for auto insurance consist of bodily injury liability coverage and property damage liability coverage. How much do drivers like you spend on auto insurance?

Not an average Joe? Well, you might fit into one of the following driver categories better than the one above. Your car insurance premiums will be based on a number of factors: age, sex, location, driving history, and more. Take a look to see if the average rates for teens and married couples are better suited to you.

Cheapest For Teens

Statistically speaking, teenage drivers tally up more car damage in their early years of driving. That’s why insurance for drivers in their teens is so expensive. In Montana, you’ll see that car insurance premiums actually aren’t too bad and start under $500 annually on the cheapest end and still under $1,000 on the more expensive side of the spectrum. Again, USAA is the most affordable, but only for military drivers. For drivers not affiliated with the military, Farmers is your cheapest option. You may be asking yourself, “how is Farmers the second most affordable for teens, yet the sixth overall?” This is because insurance companies are designed for specific customer groups. Farmers may prefer younger drivers, or other carriers may discourage younger drivers as being customers by increasing rates.

In addition to age, gender, and marital status, auto insurance companies consider your credit score and driving record when assigning your rate. If you’re paying too much for your auto policy because of a poor credit history or bad driving record, ask about discounts when you’re getting auto insurance quotes. Many auto insurance companies offer a military discount, or a discount for bundling your auto insurance policy with homeowners insurance or life insurance. Additional discounts include the safe driver discount and good student discount, which can help lower rates for teen drivers.
